Sadly, I probably never will unless someone else has already carved it into day-sized chunks.Erikahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16846371347200009801noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5818452314475850649.post-47895596786931063392010-01-27T22:40:07.460-08:002010-01-27T22:40:07.460-08:00In Judaism, there is a story to explain Moses'...In Judaism, there is a story to explain Moses' poor oratory skills. As a baby/toddler, he was sitting on Pharaoh's lap and took the crown off his head (in hindsight, it seems odd that the Pharaoh would wear a crown in the first place, but this wasn't something I questioned in elementary school). The royal advisors took this as a sign that Moses would try to usurp the kingdom from Pharaoh, so they gave Moses a test: they placed a bowl of gold coins and a bowl of hot coals in front of Moses. If he took the coins, he was clearly trying to steal Pharaoh's wealth and should be killed. An angel intervened and made Moses take the coals, and the hot coal damaged his tongue (he was at the age where you put everything in your mouth, and he either put the coal in his mouth or burned his hand and put his hand in his mouth). Never mind that your tongue and cheeks have some of the best regenerative abilities of any part of your body.

In hindsight, this story doesn't make much sense, but it was told to me multiple times at Hebrew school. I'm still a little surprised to find out it's not actually in the bible.

See http://www.jewfaq.org/moshe.htm for more on the Jewish take on Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
